Looking Younger with Gua Sha

[UltraVid id=25 ]hello and welcome to my informational video on Gua Sha for the face my name is Carey Codd I am a licensed acupuncturist and I use Gua Sha on a daily basis for my patients and for myself so what is Gua Sha Sha Sha is a Japanese word which the Gua means to scrape and the sha means discoloration and what it does is guava helps bring healthy blood flow to the area to promote healing so really great for the face often times stress manifests on the face so it’s really good just to plump up the skin so I’m going to show you one of the Gua Sha tools that I like to use is an actual horn there are other Gua Sha tools that you can use and you can even use the lid to a jar to do this because it’s the the act of what you’re doing and not always us so the tool but it is nice to have a nice tool I like this one because I can get a grasp on or how I can hold it it’s just my personal preference and Gua Sha is really useful for the face like I said because it brings circulation and blood to the area so it really plumps up that collagen in the face and it’s easy to target whatever areas that you want to now on my face just have a have a look before we do it notice there might be little discolorations I was doing gosh all over the past couple days on my face but you’ll notice the redness that happens when we start doing it the first thing that you want to do is you want put a lotion or an oil on your skin I actually make my own oils so this one that I’m using has sinned a minute cinnamon is really great for the circulation so you just want to apply some oil to the phase good amount not to think because go ahead and get the neck too as well I don’t know if you can see there are some sha marks here from the GWACs I was doing so you can already have a look this is a couple days old and it does begin to say this a day’s progress okay so now we’re going to apply the Gua Sha and I like to you can start anywhere really on the face I like to start at the center here and for me this isn’t uncomfortable at all actually rather enjoy the sensation it’s very um relaxing it feels good it’s like getting a massage on your face not applying too much pressure and if you can already start to tell there is some redness occurring and that’s good and you want to move on before the discoloration happens unless you don’t mind having discoloration on your skin it would show with little like red blood vessel looking um so I don’t mind those things because I know that they’ll be gone in a couple of days and I know that it’s healing but if you prefer not to have any of those marks don’t stay in the area for too long or if you notice any of those little red discolorations coming up just move on from the area so I’m going up to the forehead going up into the hairline and if any area feels uncomfortable just apply a little bit more oil to the area the oil is a really nice medium to help and if you’re using our particular oil like I am like the one I’m using has cinnamon in it I’m utilizing it because I know it’s getting absorbed into my bloodstream for healing benefits and it’s also very circulating for the face you can use something like peppermint as well frankincense is really good for the skin I don’t know if you can see but my four had spread it feels hot feels far and feels really good um the nettles start to dissipate it I’m just gonna go around the eye area here that’s already getting red go through the cheek area the jawline is a really great place to invigorate the energy of the liver so if you’re feeling stressed your pyramid still this is a really good area to target and move that liver energy I’m going to go to the other side you might find that there are some tender parts of the face and that’s okay that means that there’s definitely some congestion going on in that area but also to be mindful because that’s an area that could the shock could come up the discoloration could come up so if you’re wanting to avoid that don’t stay there for too long at one time you can go back to that area go into the chin area over on the other side making sure to get all those little different areas of the face even under the nose as quickly going through there and as you can tell my faces my face is red it’s next warm and tingly and hot so you can move into the neck area I’m not going to stay here too long because I did the gouache on my neck and there’s still some healing going on mmm you can just kind of move through the neck your head is getting red just bringing more that healthy energy and blood to the area you can even kind of do on the chest area as well making sure to apply the oil to the chest area as well and then what I would do is I would go over it again so you can do this in a time span of five to ten minutes outward much time that you want to spend if you want to do it every single day you can just bet in five minutes just going on to the face lightly the neck and the chest area um you know if you want to do a once a week and spend a little bit more time on it that day the oils are nicely on the face I like to let that sit too to keep permeating through the skin if you keep doing this you’ll notice differences in your face and the texture of your skin even how you’re feeling overall because from a Chinese medicine perspective there’s all these acupuncture points on the face that relate to not just a face but the rest of the body I hope you’ve enjoyed my video and stayed tuned for more
